Why Are We Building Such A Big Ship?
Born in the sweat of a New Orleans summer, Why are we building such a big ship? started to meet in the back of a falling down shotgun between a voodoo temple and Desire street in 2006. The main goal was to drown out the incessant hum of mosquito vultures with their own noise. Armed with horns and squeezeboxes, strings and piles of
junk, they blew and hollered and banged and squeezed and bowed until nothing could be heard but a song. They exchanged cryptic codes as their notation grew, and took plum brandy shots out of the largest brass mouthpiece present. They were so tickled by the process that they decided to share their fun with friends, then strangers, and then to empty rooms with microphones in them. Before long, some of the most exclusive discotheques in town wanted them to perform their songs for them. Once the stage lights came on, it was no long spell before the fortune and fame got to be a little too much. Why are we building such a big ship? began to wish for the simpler days, when all was green like a glass of limeade in a summer field. It cast aside it's big city attitudes and shiny new clothes, and took off to pursue a solo career, under the radar of the sharks and the hedgehogs in France. There were good times, sure and there were bad times, but eventually Why are we building such a big ship? began to long for fortune and fame again.
