The hottest, hardest working hip-hop act going in New Orleans today is high fashion, high camp, and high-energy bounce duo Big Freedia and Sissy Nobby - two openly gay, cross-dressing monsters of the mike from deep in the hood with glam to spare.

Former high school cheerleader and choir director Big Freedia cut her teeth as a backup singer for classmate Katey Red, New Orleans' original transsexual rapper, who appeared on the scene in 1999 with the hit "Millenium Sissy." Freedia's classic club hit "Gin N My System" still gets dance floors to shake, twerk, and wobble today.

Her partner in crime, Sissy Nobby, spits like fire, makes her own beats and routinely puts pretenders on the dance floor to shame with her wild moves.

Together, they work six or seven nights a week, from teen clubs to luxe nightspots, packing in a crowd that crosses gender, race, age and sexual identity boundaries.

They take no prisoners, and they surely take no mess.
