George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic
George Clinton, the Godfather of Funk, aka Dr. Funkenstein was born funky - in an outhouse in Kannapolis, North Carolina, on July 22, 1941! His family relocated to Plainfield, New Jersey, where as a teenager he began singing (while styling hair) in a barbershop quartet in the hood.
For the past three decades, George Clinton has been the forerunner of everything funky starting with the doo wop group The Parliaments, then creating the rock band Funkadelic, followed by the outlandish disco funk group Parliament, along with Bootsys Rubber Band, Parlet, The Brides of Funkenstein, Jimmy Jam & the Tackheads, George Clinton (the solo artist), The P-Funk All Stars, George Clinton & the P-Funk All Stars, and George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic, the name being used on current tours.
The name George Clinton (not Bill) is synonymous with Funk. If his name is not on the marquee then it is not the P-Funk we know and love uncut funk, the bomb! Their string of hits include "(I Just Wanna) Testify," "The Mothership Connection," "Aquaboogie," "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof of the Sucker)," "Flashlight," "One Nation Under A Groove," "Freak Of the Week," and "Atomic Dawg" to name a few!
George Clinton is the self-titled referee of this group comprised of some of the most talented musicians who were an integral part of the abovementioned bands, (along with a few newer members - clones of the funk). He is always ready to pass the torch and highlight these other band members in solo or group projects along the way to share their own brand of funk with the world. Whether as producer, vocalist or simply proud papa, George just wants to keep sharing the funk with one of the hardest working bands in the world! You never can tell who might join them on stage throughout any given tour!!
